Dalí-inspired elegance: the Vis-à-vis sofa

In the enchanting world where art seamlessly intertwines with design, BD Barcelona emerges as a beacon of creativity and innovation. Vis-à-vis sofa, a mesmerizing piece inspired by the surreal genius Salvador Dalí and exclusively crafted by BD Barcelona, takes center stage in the convergence of art and furniture. BD Barcelona holds the exclusive world marketing rights to all furniture designed by Salvador Dalí, a testament to the enduring partnership between the iconic surrealist artist and the avant-garde design house. During the 1930s in Paris, Dalí collaborated with Jean-Michel Frank, a distinguished furniture maker and decorator. This collaboration extended beyond traditional furnishing elements, encompassing tap fittings, handles, printed fabrics and various objects that showcased Dalí's multidisciplinary approach to art.

In the 1990s, a dedicated team led by Oscar Tusquets, undertook the ambitious task of bringing Dalí's furniture designs for Jean-Michel Frank into tangible reality. BD Barcelona became the custodian of Dalí's artistic legacy, breathing life into his imaginative creations. The result was a collection that transcended the boundaries of conventional furniture, reflecting Dalí's surreal vision in every detail.

The Vis-à-vis sofa, with its sinuous and embracing form, features intricate human elements—a feminine hand adorned with a jewel and a masculine hand adorned with a watch, delicately embracing those seated. The solid wood structure, brass plating and traditional upholstery with conical springs, a white cotton interior lining and the silk cover showcase the meticulous craftsmanship that BD Barcelona is renowned for.

In 2009, marking the 20th anniversary of Salvador Dalí's passing, the Spanish furniture brand paid a poignant homage to the artist by producing a limited edition collection. Among these exclusive pieces was the Vis-à-vis sofa, a true embodiment of Dalí's surreal essence. The black label collection, limited to 105 pieces, symbolized the age Dalí would have reached in 2009.

The Vis-à-vis sofa by BD Barcelona stands as a living testament to the indelible mark left by Salvador Dalí on the world of design. Beyond being a functional piece of furniture, it encapsulates the surreal elegance and artistic exploration that define both the artist and the design brand. Its scenic effect recommend it for the decor of many fancy residences, but also hotels and prominent lobbies all around the world.
