He saw chairs as an architectural challenge. He would often use tall chairs with straight lines to frame the tables. The simple and elegant shapes of Wright's furniture facilitated mass production, making the design accessible to the public. Wright believed that this automatism actually came to the aid of design.

This model is emblematic for modernism, due to its solid wood structure that combines curved lines with straight lines for a unique effect.

Mackintosh Candida chair was part of a series designed for the holiday home of the great producer W. Bassett Lowke. The client proved to be a difficult one and the design of the table with the adjoining chairs was not accepted. However, Roger Billcliffe, who completed the catalog of Mackintosh's works, believed that the intricate details and elaborate illustrations give the artist's work an intrinsic value.

Despite the fact that Mackintosh didn't have a significant contribution as regards the furniture, he had considerable influence on European design, especially in Austria and Germany.
